ALDERGROVE (NEWS 1130) – Icy roads caused troubles for drivers of all types Monday morning.
In Aldergrove, a jackknifed semi wedged sideways under the 264th Street overpass closed the route to traffic headed east. It appears at least two cars crashed into it.
Traffic was getting around through a detour on the offramp back onto the freeway, however, the situation was indicative of the conditions drivers were faced with after Sunday’s blast of winter weather.

It’s unclear if anyone was hurt in the crash, or how serious any potential injuries may be.

Ice on the roads created a problem for many drivers around the Lower Mainland, including along Highway 1, where Henry told NEWS 1130 sheets of frozen layers made for a difficult commute.
“They knew a week ago that these conditions are going to be here,” he said. “They knew we were going to get rain and snow and that it was going to get cold. So why didn’t they put down rock salt and sand? I’m livid, I’m livid.”
David, who also called into the NEWS 1130 newsroom on Monday, echoed how bad road conditions were.
“They honestly are bad. There’s black ice everywhere — I slipped,” he said, adding he was driving about 50 to 60 kilometres per hour on Highway 1. “It’s just nuts, I don’t know why people are still driving like freaking maniacs.”
You’re being reminded to drive to conditions and make sure you have the appropriate tires for the weather. This comes a day after Drive BC urged people who were not prepared for winter driving conditions to avoid all non-essential travel in the Lower Mainland region due to the snowfall.
